The paper poses a pivotal question regarding Madjid's intellectual journey in the socio-political context of Indonesia, particularly considering the absence of the New Order regime. By examining Madjid's embedded intellectualism, the study explores how historical contexts shape his Islamic perspectives, highlighting fundamental shifts influenced by pre- and post-New Order periods.
Fachry Ali Copyright (c) 2023 Fachry Ali https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ 2023-12-31 2023-12-31 3 2 52 70 10.51353/jpb.v3i2.906 Restorasi Filsafat, Dialog Mutual, dan Syari'ah: Ibn Rusyd dan Reformasi Islam dalam Fashl al-maqal https://journal.paramadina.ac.id/index.php/jpb/article/view/739
Ibn Rushd is one of the most important philosophers in the classical world of Islam. Without him, Aristotle would have remained a great mystery to the Western scientific world. It was he, who managed to provide the longest commentary on almost all of Aristotle's works, and his commentary, along with some of the doctrines of Averroism, created the great rationalist movement in the Latin West. However, unlike his philosophical dimension, which some Muslim scholars find too Aristotelian and therefore more impactful in the West and not in the Islamic world, Ibn Rushd's Islamic reform dimension has not received enough attention. I expose Ibn Rusyd's reform, in this study, as contained in one of his books, Fasl al-maqal fi taqrir ma bayna ash-shari'ah wa al-hikmah min al-ittisal (The decisive book on the certainty that there is a connection between shari'ah and philosophy). There are at least three main themes in his reform: restoration of philosophy, restoration of mutual dialogue, and restoration of the shari'ah. With these three themes of reform, we will realize not only Ibn Rushd's contribution to philosophy, but also his great concern for a number of crises in Islam, and for solutions to resolve them.
Ibnu Rusyd Copyright (c) 2023 Ibnu Rusyd https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ 2023-12-31 2023-12-31 3 2 71 85 10.51353/jpb.v3i2.739 Menelaah Fenomena Culture Shock pada Perantau https://journal.paramadina.ac.id/index.php/jpb/article/view/570
The focus of this research is to look at the phenomenon of culture shock by migrants. Culture shock is different from cultural lag. In this paper, migrants are students and workers who migrate from their home area to another area. They can migrate temporarily or for a long time. The methodology used is online theme-focus. Through this methodology, the author wants to see various kinds of news in online mass media about students and migrant workers. Their life stories can be a reference for other people who want to migrate. In that life story, there are many life and cultural values that can be applied by other people. This study aims to find the problems that migrants actually experience when they are in other areas. The findings in this research study are the similarities and differences in culture shock experienced by students and migrant workers. Apart from that, there are solutions for these migrants to be able to communicate between cultures when they are in a new area or environment.
Leonard Brahmandika Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Peradaban https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2023-12-31 2023-12-31 3 2 86 93 10.51353/jpb.v3i2.570 Melupakan Great Chain of Being Intelektual Muslim Dalam Tegangan Antara Sekularisme dan Skizofrenia Kultural https://journal.paramadina.ac.id/index.php/jpb/article/view/905
The integration of (post)modern Western thought by some Indonesian Muslim intellectuals needs to be critiqued regarding, first, the modern historical bias as progress, which leads to the appropriation of the latest thoughts into Islamic thinking as a sign of progress and openness. Second, the forgetting of the Great Chain of Being, resulting in the adaptation and revision of Islamic thought through the dynamics of Western (post)modern thought born from different historical contexts. Third, the tendency to graft secularism as a historical inevitability in the Islamic world, as well as the cultural schizophrenia among educated Muslims when integrating secular (post)modern knowledge into Islamic teachings and its hierarchical structure of reality.
Alfathri Adlin Yasraf Amir Piliang Bambang Sugiharto Irma Damajanti Copyright (c) 2023 Alfathri Adlin, Yasraf Amir Piliang, Bambang Sugiharto, Irma Damajanti https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2023-12-31 2023-12-31 3 2 94 109 10.51353/jpb.v3i2.905 Kausalitas dalam Sains dan Teologi: Perbandingan Pandangan Mu’tazilah dan Asyariyah https://journal.paramadina.ac.id/index.php/jpb/article/view/923
The Mu'tazilites believed in deterministic causality explained by human reason. Humans have freedom and are responsible for their actions. Ashariyah, on the other hand, believes in occasional causality controlled by God's will. Events in the universe are not connected and only happen because of God's will. Modern science, with its developments, shows that causality is not a simple concept. From classical physics to quantum physics, understanding of causality continues to evolve and challenge traditional thinking. The meeting point between theology and modern science lies in the question of God's role in the universe. Theologians' questions about miracles and divine intervention parallel physicists' questions about cause-and-effect relationships and the behavior of objects. This journal concludes that causality is a complex and multidimensional concept that requires understanding from various perspectives, including theology and science.
Lexi Zulkarnaen Hikmah Copyright (c) 2023 Lexi Zulkarnaen Hikmah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2023-12-31 2023-12-31 3 2 10.51353/jpb.v3i2.923
